If you are waiting on fear to disappear before you start, you will never start!

by Brit Lashae

If you are waiting on fear to disappear before you start, you will never start.

This statement helps me face challenges that I never thought I would challenge myself to do.

I often say this in my mind, to keep me going.  If I wait on fear, then I will be waiting forever.  If I wait on fear, then I will never see my full potential.  If I wait on fear, then I will not be where I am today. If I wait on fear, I would not be walking in my purpose. If I wait on fear, If I wait on fear, If I wait on fear…….

It actually sounds scary just saying it! Why?  Because it is allowing time to pass you by if you wait.  The longer you wait to start, the longer you are pushing out what you really want to do, the longer you are hiding your gifts, your dreams, and your passions from the world.

I realized there are only two ways to deal with starting: actually start or continue to procrastinate, and two ways to deal with fear: avoid it or face it.  My question to you are which pair are you selecting?

Actually start and face your fear or Continue to procrastinate and avoid your fear?

One of the main reasons people do not start or make that first move is because there is some type of fear tied to starting, whether it is failure, not believing in him or herself, not wanting to feel vulnerable, scared, the list goes on...

I had two reasons on why I was fearful of starting:

  1. Being vulnerable, and having to open up to everyone
  2. Having a regret of not starting, I was always scared of having the thought of “what if I would of started, what would my life be like?”

But... I had to realize that I had to start in order to move, I had to start to prove myself wrong, I had to start to change my “if i wait on fear” to “i am facing my fear.”

Here are a few tips to help you get started and face fear:

Do it in fear: Figure out what your biggest fear in “starting” is. It is time to take that fear and face it.  This will probably be one of your proudest moments, because facing the fear has allowed you Start.

Do it scared: It is ok to be afraid to start something new, it confirms that you are human :).  Doing it scared means that there is room for you to get confident in your process, you will be able to see your growth, and compare where you started from to where you are continuously going.

Do it when you are vulnerable:  Being vulnerable helps you be the true you, Starting your project and opening it up to the world can be one of the hardest things to do, because it feels like everyone is watching you.  This is the perfect time to release and get that initial butterfly feeling out, and be your authentic self.
